Mi Sala Luis Diaz

SIMULTANEOUS SEQUENCES 1972

The Traffic Prints (1972) emerged from an experimental process in which vehicular traffic passed over corrugated cardboard portfolios joined with cloth tape hinges for periods of one to four hours. The portfolios were placed on cast-iron drain covers in different streets throughout Guatemala City. Developed by the artist, this technique arose from a scarcity of resources and evolved into a distinctive visual language, in which urban traffic, time, and the pressure of passing vehicles became essential elements of the creative process.

ATITLAN 1979

Before the large triptychs, Luis Diaz photographed the perimeter of Lake Atitlan from the center of the water with his friend Tono Prado, developing this preparatory work -drawings, watercolors and woodcuts- that preceded the 30 linear meters of metal relief shown at the Sao Paulo Biennial.

COPAN 1975

The Copán series consists of 12 drawings made on watercolor paper, composed of geometric figures in black and white.

PARISIAN FAUNA -AMERIDA 1983

Part of the series of engravings based on the works from the installation Fauna Parisina, Amerida depicts two characters observed by Luis Díaz while riding the Paris Metro during his first visit to the city in 1982. Created using the intaglio technique in a single color, the work transforms a fleeting urban encounter into a graphic composition.

SHOWCASE 1984

Based on the metal-on-wood Showcase triptych, which includes Penca de Banano, Café, and Dulce, Luis Díaz created an edition of engravings with the same themes and titles. Executed using the etching (aguafuerte) technique, each print was produced with three colors applied simultaneously in a single printing process.

THE CONQUEST 1989

Since oil paint takes time to dry, Luis Diaz produced this parallel series of small-format intaglios from The Conquest (1989), conceived as a second exhibition within the same show of 13 large canvases.

IN FLAMES - AQUATINT 1997

Aquatint series derived from the In Flames painting installation, which fractures human figures and national symbols into flames against a blue and white horizon.
